Maybelline big eyes = Big disappointment mascara

Maybelline - Big eyes - mascara - double ended mascara - review

After seeing the advert on telly for this I knew I had to give it ago, I love Maybelline mascaras and think they do some of the best high street mascaras available. Although double ended mascaras are nothing new, the ones I have used in the past are directed at both sets of lashes. Where as this one has a brush directed at your upper lashes and the other brush is directed at your lower lashes.

I love the fact that the lower lash brush is small enough for the smallest most delicate lower lashes and the formula isn't as thick. It does give your lower lashes a lovely light coating without the clumps. The look is subtle yet each lash clearly more visible. I had to add several coats as the look from two coats is just dramatic enough for me.

The formula isn't waterproof and can easily be removed, yet I did find that with my eyes that are prone to watering, I did get slight smudging but no more than with other non waterproof mascara.

Maybelline say:
Revolutionary dual-ended Mascara for 360° all around Lash Glam
Two brushes specifically designed for top and bottom lashes
Special quick-dry formula holds lashes in place

Why You'll Love It

Now get bigger, wide-open eyes with 360 degrees of lash glam volume! The Upper Brush pushes lashes over the top while the lower Micro-Brush grabs every tiny bottom lash for a full circle effect.

For Best Results

Apply the Upper Brush against the top lashes and sweep from root to tip until a clean, voluminous look is achieved, followed by the lower lash line using the Micro Brush. Do not let dry between coats. Removes with soap and water or with Maybelline® Clean Express!® Classic Eye Makeup Remover.

The upper brush didn't impress me. Although it did push up my lashes, It didn't add curl or hold any curl and I felt the formula did weigh down my lashes slightly. There wasn't any exceptional length and I found it hard to build the volume I like without the dreaded clumps. So really not the mascara for me as I love my lashes to have a lot of volume and look thick and full. It does however accentuate every lash and give a real fanned affect to them all.  So if you have longer lashes that you just want to darken or define this would be perfect for you and will open up your eyes.

Overall I love the idea of a double brush and the bottom brush is much better than the top. I am quite disappointed by this latest offering from Maybelline. It is a pretty average mascara, It gives a pretty and natural look but just didn't deliver enough volume or length and gave quite a spidery look instead of the voluminous look promised.

Have you tried this mascara? Will you be buying it? Which mascara is your all time favourite?

Lots of Love,
Laura x

  1. Ah this looks so good on the advert but I never trust ads cause they're not always accurate. It does sound nice but I don't think I'd change from my beloved Big Fatty from Urban Decay!

  2. A shame it didn't work so good, Maybelline mascaras are usually great, I'm not keen on the spidery lash look :(

  6. I think this product seems ruined by the result on the top lashes! However I think your lower lashes look really nice, and would look even better if your top ones weren't so spidery - and at a fraction of the price of the Clinique bottom lashes mascara I might give it a try for the lower lash brush alone!

  7. not keen on the look of this at all, the lower lashes look nice but the top lashes look clumpy. I don't think I'll be investing in this!

  10. This is one new mascara I haven't brought, but glad I haven't! I have never liked Maybelline for mascaras, the new Max Factor one is a decent double tubed one!

  15. I usually love Maybelline mascaras as well, but this one didn't do it for me. My lashes are simply too long to handle the formula, which I find quite heavy.
I've heard others have really great experience with this though, so I guess it depends on your own lashes!
